Riotous Assembly Records
A few years back i discovered this cool little record label/distro called Riotous Assembly. The thing I really liked about it was that the fellow running it, Kif, seemed to like a lot of the music that I liked. Be it death, grind, crust, hardcore, or whatever else you might like, chances are Kif will have something to please your ears.

Interview with Kif

1. What made you decide to start a label?
i just wanted to put out music by bands i like and trade for records and sell records by bands i liked...

2. How long has Riotous Assembly existed? Was it always a label and distro?
i started Riotous Assembly in like 1994 or something like that..i can't remember exactly.. before that i distributed books and comics..

3. Besides the label/distro, what else do you do with your time?
i'm into filming stuff, i'm working on a movie called "bottomfeederz", i'm into printing stuff on t-shirts and paper, doing artwork, getting drunk and stoned hanging out with friends

4. How would you say that the music has changed over the years? Have the
bands got better?

i think there are some good bands these days but most of the best bands are from the 80's and early     90's...

5. Do you prefer the underground before computers became a big part of it
or are computers a "Blessing"?

i think computers have made communication and stuff more impersonal, but computers save lots of money on postage and allow you to contact more people without paying huge postage bills, so they have their good and bad things about them...

6. What was the best thing ever put out by your label?
i like the agents of satan/no less -split 7" alot and the bastard noise "r.a. sessions" ep, it was cool re-issuing the grief/13-split ep too

7. What bands are you listening to these days?
i listen to alot of the same stuff i listened to when i was 11 and 12 years old in the early 80's, like the germs, battalion of saints, discharge, the lewd, poison idea, misfits, negative fx, necros, urban waste, siege, dr.know, suicidal, black flag, some newer
bands that rule are gordon solie motherfuckers, outcold, 9 shocks terror, rupture, i listen to lots of good grind and metal stuff too from the late 80's stuff like carcass, napalm death , deviated instinct, axegrinder, bolt thrower, impetigo, to the recent newer stuff, dekapitator, nunslaughter, revenge, engorged, exhumed ,etc...

8. What do you have coming out in the future?
i got a bunch of stuff coming in awhile but i've been really broke since getting ripped off by Haroldo from Bad People Records on the "Twin Threat To Your Sanity" Compilation so a bunch of my releases are on hold

9. Any other good labels we should check out?
Nuclear BBQ Party, Razorback Records, Mortville, HG Fact, MCR Japan, Deep Six, those are just off the top of my head, there is tons of other good labels..

10. What was the best experience for you running a label? What was the worst?
the best experience of me running a label is my record collection and meeting some cool people throughout the years, the worst experience was getting involved with that rip-off asshole Haroldo from Bad People Records on the "Twin Threat To Your Sanity" Compilation

11. Do you only sell what you like?
mainly but occasionally i get some stuff i don't really like in a trade or whatever, but i'm more picky now and i'm scaling my distro. down to just bands i like

12. What styles of music are you willing to release?
any style i like... punk, hardcore, noise, grind, death metal ,etc..

13. How would a band get in touch with you about releasing or distro-ing their music?
i'm not really taking on any new projects from other bands right now , i got a few other things i gotta release before i think of doing other stufff..but i'm always looking for bands for a compilation i'm working on....if you want me to distribute your stuff just get in touch with me, but i only am interested in trading, i never take stuff on consignment...

14. Have you ever made money on a release or is this basically just a labour of love?
definitely a labour of love.. don't get into doing a record label to try to make money because you could do better on almost anything else, it's hard to even get your money back, unless your a big corporate label chances are you won't make much money

15. What made you decide to start selling shrunken heads? Any other "interesting" non-musical items you plan to sell?
i like shrunken heads because they are morbid and cool to look at, i always wanted to get a shrunken head since i was a little kid, i realize they are not politically correct and will offend some p.c. people but i don't care, i sold a good amount of them and traded for some too, but now i only have a small amount left..
besides selling music i'm starting to print and sell t-shirts and i'm trying to get a video rental store going soon we will specialize in porn, gore, and subversive politics... i'm also planning on releasing and distributing
some movies soon.. i'm mainly into art , music , and film stuff...

16. Any final words?

annihilate conformity
